Who is your most important customer?

Surprisingly, it is not your client.  It is your staff.

It is always amazing to talk with agency owners about their view on staff development.  Owners always acknowledge the value of their staff.  But it is not uncommon to find an owner investing more in keeping their biggest customer rather than their staff.

Consider the cost of losing a $500,000 client - let's say about $50,000.  To replace a $40,000 CSR will cost at least $60,000 once you consider finding, hiring and training a new person.

Begin thinking of your staff as your most most important customer.  How is their "customer satisfaction"?  Do you retain your staff?  How valued are their concerns, needs and growth?  Once you realize that you can replace your largest customer for less than you can hire a new staff person, you will view your staff in a totally new light; and they will view their job in a new way also.
