Is the day of the "generalist" over?  From my perspective, the answer is an enthusiastic “YES!”

 

Does new business come from your local community or whatever the phone might bring? If your agency is looking for profitable growth over the next 10 years, niche marketing might just be an answer.

 

Can a focused niche marketing approach produce the results you are looking for?  Let’s take a look.  What will niche marketing do for you?

 

First, by coordinating your efforts with your carriers, you are working with them, not against them (some might say that is impossible, but that is a topic for another time).  Positive relationships can potentially result in marketing materials, higher commissions and preferred underwriting for your agency. 

 

Second, it provides your producers with focus.  A focused person is generally more effective than one who is not. This can translate into higher sales, more motivation and a higher level of energy in your office.  Are your producers focused?

 

Third, you can have more fun!  When a producer, or an agency, finds a market they are passionate about, their enthusiasm is contagious and infects everyone in the agency.  By finding a market you can enjoy and learn more about, you become a recognized expert. Do you have a potential niche market in your current book of business?
