Tip of The Month
Pass Along Your Success!

The July 5 issue of The Source (Click Here to read) had a great article titled, "You May Not Be Able To Get Rid Of Stress... " that was submitted by Sherry Burrell at Grimes Agency in Georgia.

We had amazing response to this article, and here is just one fantastic idea from Lisa Burnside at Truck Writers in Blaine, MN.
"Tricia and Heidi volunteered to stand at the front of the class while we discussed where stressors came from (environment, workload, and attitudes).  They each held a full glass of water.  I allowed Heidi to put hers down from time to time while Tricia continued to hold hers through the entire talk.

When we finished discussing what stresses us all out (about 15 minutes of discussion), I let both Heidi and Tricia put their glasses of water down and return to their seats.  I then let everyone in on why they were standing there holding the water and asked them how they felt.

Of course Tricia was tired of holding it and little put off by why Heidi could keep setting hers down.  Heidi wasn't stressed at all.  I then read your story of carrying burdens is like holding the glass of water.  We discussed various ways we can de-stress and unload the burdens.

We continued with the water glass analogy where stressors put more water in our glasses and stress-releasers allow us to empty our glasses.  I then handed out each of the sayings on cards and asked people to take one if they felt comfortable reading it to the rest of the group. I didn't want to add stress to anyone by asking them to read in front of others.  We then went around the room and each person that had a card read it.  We got a lot of good laughs and insights.  They were then instructed to keep the cards in appreciation for their participation."
